Cardiff over the years

NEW BEGINNINGS

As I going to be starting a new chapter in my life, my family and I are going to be moving away from the city that I have come to call home, Cardiff. The capitol of Wales, and one of the 4 capitols in the UK. I have grown accustomed to Cardiff. I met my wife here, and my daughter was born here. But I have never viewed Cardiff as my final resting place.

Over the years I have photographed the streets of Cardiff with trusty Minolta SRT101, my Sony Alpha 35 and sometimes just my mobile phone. It has been the canvas that I have used to express my artistic and creative needs. I started in Cardiff Metropolitan University's Cardiff School of Art and Design. Originally this was based in Howard Gardens Campus near the city centre. It was an excellent place to expand my artistic skills, knowledge and expertise. They encouraged the students to express themselves as much as possible and to work in such a collaborative environment as that was an experience that I will always remember.

Cardiff does have a very active art scene from galleries such as Martin Tinney, Castle Fine Art and Chapter Art Centre to small, local galleries in places such Castle Emporium (The SHO Gallery). There also places to develop film and print your own photos. You can go to places like Express Imaging on City Road, or Made in Roath.

These were all taken on my Minolta SRT101.
All of these photos were taken in the summer of 2023.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

The last lot of photos were taken in 2011, and rediscovered thanks to Flickr. Taken on my Minolta SRT101 and all developed in the darkroom in the university I was attending at the time. I recently unearthed my old Flicker account, and dug up these old photos. 
Frankly, Flickr is much better than Instagram when it comes to viewing the photo, but Instagram is better for instant hit that it provides.
Anyway I hope that you enjoy these photos.

       My first camera was a Minolta SRT, gifted to me by dad back in the '90's when I was in in Art College. Film photography was always my first love, in the photography sense of the word. Anyone who has ever smelt the inside of a darkroom knows the sort of nostalgia this can invoke, and the feeling that you get when you develop that perfect photograph. Some thoughts... on New Zealand

All of these shots are in Auckland, by far New Zealand's largest city. A city that is at once very busy, like any other large metropolitan area in the world, but manages to maintain the Kiwis relaxed attitude to life and huge sense of fun. Unfortunately I had commited the ultimate film photography sin, and I hadn't taken enough film, and I had finished that in the first week of being in the country. Cyprus 2023

During half term, my family and I took a much needed holiday to Cyprus. This was the second time that my wife and I had been, we have some very fond memories of the island and her people, but this would be the first time that my daughter had been to the island. With this in mind, we set off on our journey towards Aphrodites island. As is normal, I took my trusty Minolta SRT 101 as my digital camera died during 2022, when we were in Botswana. I had bought some film from one of my local camera shop, Express Imaging. I bought 2 rolls of Fomapan film, in hindsight I should've bought some colour film as well. We stayed near a town called Paphos. Situated on the south coast. It oozes history from the Ancient Greeks, Romans, Ottaman Empire and British Empire. As a bit of history buff, I was in heaven. It was fantastic. There was a place called the Archaeological Site of Nea Paphos, which contains a huge amount of Mosaics, a Roman villa... or two, and Odeon, all for around 10 E...
